We at Allegro Publishing-Graphics are happy to introduce Steven Wasson,
composer and clinician. He has recently joined Allegro Publishing-Graphics
and all of his works will now be published exclusively by us. Previously
his works were published by SHALL-u-mo Publications.
Steve was born in Dayton, Ohio June 17, 1946 to Audley Jackson and Barbara
Hickam Wasson. He first studied piano with his parents as well as composition
and conducting with his father. He later apprenticed as a piano technician under his father and served
from 1987 to 1999 as Concert/Artist Piano Technician for the Dayton
Philharmonic Orchestra. He also studied violoncello
with Jack Kirstein, Janos Starker, and David Baumgartner.
Dr. Wasson graduated from Eastman School of Music with his B.M. (1969)
and M.M. (1971) degrees, both in composition. He graduated from the
College-Conservatory of Music with his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in
composition in June, 2000. His dissertation is PARAPHRASES, Op. 39 (1995-1999) for Violin and
Keyboard Instruments, a 32-minute work in seven movements.
Among his teachers were Allen D. Sapp II,
T. Scott Huston, Jr., Frederick Bianchi, Samuel Adler, and Wayne Barlow
in composition, Frank Glazer and Barry L. Snyder in Piano,
and Leonard Slatkin and Donald Hunsberger in conducting.
He is an "Artist Friend of the House" for Steinway & Sons and a member
of Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI).
He also serves as an organist at a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod
(WELS) church in Centerville (Dayton), Ohio. He became a charter member in
January 2002 of the newly founded Association of WELS and ELS Composers
(AWEC), an organization of composers that are members of the Wisconsin
Evangelical Lutheran and Evangelical Lutheran Synods.
Steven's music has been performed by
members of various U.S. orchestras as well as the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra
and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. He has received first place awards in
the National Federation of Music Clubs and National Guild of Piano Teachers
composition contests as well as the Louis Lane Prize. He has performed
extensively locally and in various Eastern and Midwestern U.S. cities.
